J.J. Cannon

J.J. Cannon is entering his second season as the fielding coach for the Keys. Cannon was Houston’s first selection (18th overall) in the January 1974 draft. He played in 148 Major League games with the Astros (1977-78) and Blue Jays (1979-81) over a 10-year professional career.

Cannon broke into the coaching ranks as a player/coach for Class-A Kinston in 1983, before becoming a full-time coach with the team in 1984. He then moved to a six-year   coaching stint at Knoxville (1985-1990).

Cannon spent 20 years in the Toronto Blue Jays organization as a player, coach and manager. He had managerial stints at Medicine Hat (1991), St. Catherine’s (1992-95), Hagerstown (1996-97) and Knoxville (1998). In 1993, he was named the New York-Penn League Manager of the Year, while in 1997 he was named as a coach to the South Atlantic League All-Star Team. Cannon also managed teams in the Atlanta Braves and Houston Astros organizations. Overall, Cannon managed for 11 consecutive seasons with three different organizations from 1991-2001, compiling a 552-503 record.
