Blaine Beatty is entering his third season as the pitching coach for the Keys. Originally drafted by the Orioles in the 9th round of the 1986 Amateur Draft, Beatty played in the organization just a season before being dealt to the New York Mets.
Beatty began coaching in the Pirates organization in 1998, where he stayed for five seasons. In 2003, Beatty worked as the pitching coach with the Capital City Bombers of the South Atlantic League. A year later he helped the Bombers to a franchise-record 89 wins.
Beatty has helped develop many current Major League pitchers. Some of his former pupils include Mike Gonzalez, Scott Kazmir and Brian Bannister. He’s also worked with current Orioles prospects Radhames Liz, Garrett Olson, James Hoey, Brandon Erbe, Bob McCrory and Chorye Spoone.
A native of Victoria, Texas, and a star pitcher at Baylor University, made his big-league debut on September 16, 1989 with the Mets. He spent parts of three seasons in the Major Leagues. During his Minor League pitching career, the left-hander posted a 121-69 record with a 3.26 ERA in 296 Minor League games. Beatty earned Texas League "Pitcher of the Year" honors while pitching for Double-A Jackson (MS) in 1988. |
