The Frederick Keys “Keys for Reading” program started as a local reading incentive program set to honor the students and staff of Frederick County for their reading accomplishments throughout the spring semester. Now in its 12th consecutive year, the program boasts over 100,000 participating students spread out across Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia and West Virginia.
Here's how the program works:
- Each student is required to read four books suitable for their reading ability in a two-month time period.
- Each book will be recorded on an official Keys for Reading bookmark and will need to be signed by their parent or guardian.
- Once completed, the student will return their bookmark to their teacher in exchange for a ticket to your school’s night (or day) at the ballpark.
- Each county will have a special night at the ballpark. Before the game, students who completed the program will be called down to the playing field for a parade and recognition ceremony. Names of the participating schools will be announced over the public address system for the entire to stadium to cheer. After the parade, the students are free to enjoy America’s game, up close and personal. All schools will also be encouraged to display their Keys for Reading banner during the parade. The winning school will receive an appearance by two Keys players for an autograph session at their school.
New for the 2008 season, the FREE student tickets will be good for ANY seat in the house! Whether it’s General Admission or our brand new Reserved Seating, each family can decide where they would like to sit at Harry Grove Stadium!
