Frederick Keys 1B/OF Robbie Widlansky has been named Carolina League Player of the Week for a second time this season. The Keys slugger batted .586 (17 for 29) with six doubles, two home runs and nine RBI for the week of August 3 - 9.
Widlansky, 24, has batted .364 with six home runs and 40 RBI in 59 games with Frederick in 2009. He began the season in extended spring training but was called up in May, debuting in Kinston on the 22d of the month. Widlansky was also named Carolina League Player of the Week for the week ended June 21 and is the first Keys player to be honored twice in 2009.
The 11th round pick out of Florida Atlantic was a New York Penn League All-Star in 2008. Widlansky has been joined by collegiate teammates Chris Salberg and Brandon Cooney with Frederick this season. He came on the scene with Frederick leading the league in batting in his first full month posting a .395 average in June. After batting .299 in July, Widlansky has gone 17 for 38 (.447) with nine RBI in nine games in August.
Two former Frederick Keys players also received weekly awards in their respecitve leagues. Triple-A Norfolk Tides first baseman Brandon Snyder was named the International League's Batter of the Week for August 3-9 and Bowie Baysox starting pitcher Brandon Erbe received the Pitcher of the Week honrom from the Eastern League.
