FREDERICK NO-HITS SALEM
Erbe, Ouellette and Deza Combine for First Keys No-Hitter Since 2006

The last time the Frederick Keys pitching staff combined to throw a no-hitter, right-handed pitcher Fredy Deza was sitting in the bullpen watching it. Tonight, Deza was on the mound to close one out as the Keys no-hit the Salem Avalanche tonight, defeating them 5-0.

Frederick starter Brandon Erbe pitched very well, and got some early run support. In the bottom of the second inning, Miguel Abreu and Billy Rowell hit back-to-back doubles to give the Keys a 1-0 lead.

In the bottom of the third, Jason White drilled a solo homer to right, his first of the season, to give the Keys a 2-0 lead. They weren't done. Brandon Snyder singled, and Brandon Tripp drilled his 13th round-tripper of the year to make it a four-run Frederick advantage.

Erbe was pulled after the sixth inning. The right-hander allowed no runs and no hits, while walking three, hitting two and striking out seven.

Ryan Ouellette came in to pitch the top of the seventh. He hit Koby Clemens, then walked Orlando Rosales. After getting a groundball out from Nick Moresi, Oullette walked Greg Buchanan to load the bases. Ouellette was pulled, and Deza came in. The veteran right-hander induced a 4-6-3 double play to end the threat.

The Keys would tack on another run in the seventh, to make it a five-run lead. Deza set the side down in order in both the eighth and ninth, all on grounders, to solidify the no-hitter.

The no-no is the fifth in club history, and the first for Frederick since Radhames Liz, Russ Petrick, Jeff Montsani and Casey Cahill combined to throw one on 4/12/2006. Coincidentally, it was also against Salem.

Erbe got the win, improving his record to 9-10. He joins Erik Schullstrom, Josh McNatt, John Maine and Liz as Keys starting pitchers to be involved in a no-hitter. Erick Abreu took the loss, dropping to 6-4. Deza closed out the gem to pick up his third save.

The Avalanche will try to avoid a sweep tomorrow night at Harry Grove Stadium, as these two clubs meet in the finale of this three-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00. For ticket information, contact our box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
