KEYS SPLIT DOUBLE-HEADER
Frederick Takes Game One, Drops Game Two
Frederick threatened to sweep their third straight double-header this season, after winning game one against Lynchburg 5-4. The Keys were unable to seal the deal, though, as the Hillcats battled back to win the nightcap, 3-1. Right-hander Brandon Erbe got the start for the Keys in the first game. After getting roughed up badly in his last three starts, Erbe retired the first six batters he faced, cruising to his fourth victory of the season. Frederick did all of their damage in the first two innings. Danny Figueroa led off the first inning with a double. He advanced to third on a Chris Amador-bunt single, and scored on a passed ball, giving the Keys a 1-0 advantage. Frederick opened it up in the second, sending nine batters to the plate, scoring four runs on four hits, giving them a 5-0 lead. The Hillcats scored two in the third, one in the sixth and one in the seventh to make it a close ball game. Keys reliever Chad Thall was able to close it out, however, picking up his second save of the season. The nightcap was a close one early. In the second, the Hillcats got back-to-back-to-back singles to load the bases with nobody out against new Keys' starter Aubrey Miller. Tony Mansolino grounded into a fielder's choice to score a run, and give the Hillcats a 1-0 lead. Miller, however, got a ground ball double-play off the bat of Greg Picart, preventing any further damage. The Keys answered back in the bottom half of the inning. Chris Vinyard drilled the first pitch he saw deep and over the wall in left for his fourth homerun of the season, tying the ball game at one. With two men out in the top of the fourth, Lynchburg took the lead back. Jared Keel hit a solo homerun off of Miller to give the Hillats a 2-1 lead. They tacked on another run in the sixth to make the final score 3-1. In his first appearance with Lynchburg, right-hander Emilis Guerrero picked up the win. He allowed no runs on just two hits in 3.1 innings of work. He improves to 1-0. Miller got the loss in his Carolina League debut, dropping to 0-1. Jeff Sues pitched the final two thirds of the seventh inning to pick up his second save. The Hillcats will try to salvage a split tomorrow afternoon at Harry Grove Stadium. First pitch is scheduled for 2 PM. For ticket information, contact the Keys box office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS.
