ONE THAT GOT AWAY
Keys Leave Ample Opportunities on Table in 2-1 Extra Innings Loss
After tying the game in the fifth inning, Frederick stranded eight runners on base over the rest of the contest falling short in ten innings in Salem 2-1. The Keys are winless in extra innings games on the road in four tries. Tied in extra innings with CF Danny Figueroa at third base and no outs, RF Brandon Tripp struck out. After C Matt Wieters was intentionally walked 1B Paul Winterling failed to put down a suicide squeeze and Figueroa was pegged at the plate. Winterling would strike out to end the inning as the Keys potential rally went down in flames. In the bottom of the tenth inning with two men aboard and one out, Salem 1B Mark Ori hot shot skidded off of the mound and over the head of Keys 2B Miguel Abreu into centerfield. The potential inning ending double play ball had just turned to a game winning hit and the Keys saw another close road game slip away. Of Frederick's six hits, four were doubles but none of them either drove home or later scored a run. 3B Billy Rowell was 2-for-3 with a run scored and a walk. He now has six multi-hit games in his last eight. 1B Chris Vinyard doubled twice in a 2-for-4 night but would not have anything to show for it. Keys starter Pedro Beato worked an efficient five innings allowing a run on three hits. RHP Jeff Moore (0-1) allowed his first Carolina League run to get the loss. The Keys continue their series in Salem Wednesday, May 14th at 7:07 p.m. Frederick will return home Friday, May 16th to face Lynchburg at 7:00 p.m. Fireworks will follow the ballgame.
