Two Home-Run Night Blasts Frederick to 8-1 Win
Keys C Matt Wieters homered twice and the Frederick Keys coasted to an 8-1 win to even their series in Lynchburg at a game apiece. The home runs moved Wieters into a tie with Keys OF Brandon Tripp atop the Carolina League with seven home runs on the year. Keys starter Jake Renshaw worked a solid six innings to pick up his league leading fifth win. Frederick leapt to an early lead when Wieters launched a solo home run to right field with two down in the first inning to put the Keys up 1-0. The Keys would extend upon the lead with two runs in the third inning and two more in the fifth inning. In the sixth DH Brandon Snyder hit his second home run of the year to push Frederick's advantage to 6-1. Wieters would hit a solo blast two innings later to add another run. All in all Wieters went 3-for-4 with two home runs, three runs scored and three runs driven in. He now has a season-high eight game hit streak. 3B Billy Rowell also had a big night with two two-out RBI base hits. Rowell went 2-for-5 with two RBI's and now has four multi-hit games in his last five. The Keys look to build on their big win in Lynchburg Saturday, May 10th at 7:05 p.m. Frederick returns home Friday, May 16th to face the Hillcats once again with Fireworks following the game at Harry Grove Stadium.
