LATE BLOWN LEAD NEGATES SWEEP BID
Two-Run Wilmington Ninth Inning Tallies Upend Keys
It appeared the Keys would finally close out a sweep after four failed attempts early on in 2008. The Keys held a one-run lead in a pitcher's duel into the ninth inning but failed to close the door as Wilmington plated two runs in the bottom of the ninth inning to end the Keys sweep bid in dramatic fashion, 2-1. Blue Rocks CF Derrick Robinson singled to lead-off the inning. He then stole second base and scored with one-out on RF Joe Dickerson's RBI-double. Dickerson would move to third base on a wild pitch and score the winning run on 2B Kurt Mertins game-winning sacrifice fly. Keys starter Jake Arrieta was phenomenal once again. He worked seven shutout innings, striking out eight Blue Rocks. It was the third time in Arrieta's six professional starts that he stuck out at least eight batters. The Keys struggled mightily at the plate throughout not registering a baserunner until 1B Brandon Snyder doubled to lead off the sixth inning. Frederick will continue their seven-game road trip in Woodbridge, VA against the Potomac Nationals Thursday, May 1st at 7:05 p.m. The Keys return home to take on the Kinston Indians Monday, May 5th at 7:00 p.m. at Harry Grove Stadium. It will be Kids Eat Free Night presented by Giant Eagle. For tickets contact the Keys Box Office at 1-87-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
