KEYS UNABLE TO COMPLETE SWEEP
Strong Salem Seventh Inning Puts Away Keys

After handing Salem their first series loss of the season, the Frederick Keys dropped the finale of a three-game set against the Avalanche 13-6.
Salem started the game off on the right foot. Leadoff hitter Wladimir Sutil led off with a double down the left field line. Avalanche right fielder Orlando Rosales followed that up with a single. With runners on the corners, slugging shortstop Tim Torres hit a three-run homer to give Salem a 3-0 lead.

The Keys would battle back, scoring one in the first. In the bottom of the second, Frederick tacked on three more runs on four straight singles to take the lead, 4-3.

The Avalanche re-took the lead, however, in the next half-inning with a two-run homer from Mark Ori. The slugging first baseman later hit a solo shot in the fifth inning.

In the top of the seventh, with the Avalanche leading 7-5, Salem was able to break the game wide open. Salem sent ten batters to the plate, scoring six runs - all unearned - on four hits, off Keys reliever Kyle Schmidt.

Second year Frederick starter Brandon Erbe received the loss, his first of the season. He went 5.1 innings, allowing seven runs, six earned, on eight hits (including three homeruns).

Salem starter Casey Hudspeth got the win. After struggling through the first two innings, Hudspeth settled down. The righty retired eight straight Keys at one point during the game.

The Keys head to Winston-Salem tomorrow, to play the first of a four-game set against the Warthogs. The Keys return home April 21st, to take on the Wilmington Blue Rocks. It'll be "Kids Eat Free Night" at Harry Grove Stadium. All kids 12 and under will receive a voucher for a free hotdog, chips and a drink upon entering the stadium.
