LATE LEAD NOT ENOUGH AGAIN AS KEYS FALL IN 11 INNINGS
Controversial Ending Sends Keys to Second Straight Extra Inning Loss
A late lead was relinquished for a second consecutive night and the Keys lost in extra innings 3-2 to the Myrtle Beach Pelicans. The game ended in controversial fashion with the bases loaded and Pelicans OF Gorkys Hernandez in pain after being struck by a pitch on the hand with the bases loaded. Hernandez was attempting to check his swing when hit but when the umpires finished discussing the play they overturned the original call of a foul ball ending the game. Frederick once again wasted an outstanding start, this time from starter Brandon Erbe. He allowed just two hits and one run in 6 and 1/3 innings exiting with a 2-1 lead. The Keys held onto the lead until Pelicans OF Willie Cabrera homered on the first pitch of the ninth inning to tie the game. Keys manager Tommy Thompson was ejected for a second time in three nights following the ruling of a hit by pitch on Hernandez. The series continues Saturday, April 12th at 7:00 p.m. in Myrtle Beach. The Keys will return home for Kids Eat Free Monday to host the Salem Avalanche on the 14th at 7:00 p.m. For tickets call the Keys Box Office at 1-877-8-GO-KEYS or purchase online at frederickkeys.com.
