HUBELE DRIVES IN GAME-WINNING RUN IN TENTH
KEYS TAKE THREE OF FOUR FROM WILMINGTON
Frederick, MD – Ryan Hubele’s single to left field in the bottom of the tenth inning drove in Bryan Bass, as the Frederick Keys (8-9) defeated the Wilmington Blue Rocks (8-9), 2-1 taking three of four games from their Carolina League Northern Division rivals.
Wilmington scored first in the second inning behind an RBI single from Brant Ust to drive in Jeff Ontiveros. Frederick answered back in the same inning with a Bryan Bass single that scored Dustin Yount.
The two team’s starters engaged in a pitcher’s duel the rest of the way. Through six innings Keys starter Adam Loewen held the Blue Rocks bats in check allowing just one run, unearned, on three hits, while striking out nine. Wilmington’s Juan Cedeno allowed just one run scattering six hits over six innings. Frederick’s Trevor Caughey and Wilmington’s Pete Fisher matched each other, both tossing three scoreless innings of relief, striking out three batters apiece. Chris Britton retired tossed a scoreless tenth inning.
In the bottom of the tenth inning Felix Romero walked Bryan Bass. Travis Brown’s sacrifice bunt moved Bass to second base. Romero intentionally walked Jarod Rine, but the move backfired when Romero balked moving both runners ahead one base. Ryan Hubele hit the walk-off single driving in Bass, as the Keys moved into a second place tie with Wilmington.
Britton (1-0) picked up the win tossing a scoreless tenth inning. Romero (1-2) took the loss allowing the run over a third of an inning.
The Keys are off on Monday before traveling to Winston Salem, NC to play the Winston-Salem Warthogs (Chicago White Sox affiliate) in a three game series starting Tuesday. The Keys will then play three against the Potomac Nationals (Washington Nationals affiliate) before returning to Harry Grove Stadium on Monday, May 2nd at 7:05 p.m.
